PLEASE READ THE FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS BEFORE EMAILING P.C..

Frequently asked questions:

Q: Will you answer questions for my book report/essay/interview?

A:  If you would like to interview P.C. and/or Kristin for your magazine, website, school newspaper, etc., you may contact their St. Martin’s publicist, Katy Hershberger, at katy.hershberger@stmartin.com.  She will coordinate the interview.

Ms. Cast and Kristin don’t typically answer book report/school assignment questions.  If they did this they wouldn’t have time to write.  They suggest you use your research skills and read the many interviews they’ve already given through the internet.  Often your book report questions can be answered that way.

Q:  How do I get published?  Can you help me get published?

A:  Being an author is a job, and like any other you have to educate yourself about the career field.  First you should know that other authors can’t get you published.  Editors and agents can get you published, but you must have a completed manuscript and go through the submission process (though an editor and/or agent, NOT an author) to be considered.  Then you need to be talented, tenacious, and lucky.   If you want to be an author you need to do your research.  Go to the writers’ resource section of bookstores and/or libraries and begin reading.  Start with THE WRITERS’ MARKET, THE AGENTS’ MARKET, and HOW TO GET HAPPILY PUBLISHED by Judith Appelbaum.  Then join a writers’ group.  Attend writers’ conventions.  Go to book signings and buy books (this sets up good Karma).  Don’t apathetically write authors and expect them to show you how to be successful.

Q:  Will you read my manuscript/book/short story/idea?

A:  No.  If Kristin and I read your work we wouldn’t have time to write our own.  In addition, we can not get you published! (see previous response)  So it would do no good for us to read your work, though we wish you all the best with your writing.

Q:  How do I get an agent?

A:  Again, research.  Begin by reading THE AGENTS’ MARKET.

Q:  Who is your agent?

A:  Meredith Bernstein – you can find out how to query her through THE AGENTS’ MARKET.

Q:  Are you going to write another young adult series?

A:  Maybe, but right now we’re focusing on the House of Night.

Q:  Why did you choose the spelling vampyre?

A:  No deep, dark, mysterious reason.  I simply prefer that spelling.  Actually, Kristin prefers the traditional vampire spelling, but I’m the mom so I got my way.

Q:  What are you religious beliefs?

A:  Our religious beliefs are private, but we will say that we don’t adhere to the ideology that says there is only one right answer to the question of how a person should believe.

Q:  What other books does P.C. have out?

A:  Go to the books link of my website.  My other books are listed there.
